Inspired by the view from Mount Tarrengower near Maldon looking towards Cairn Curran reservoir and the tumble of granite outcrops, hills and extinct volcanoes on the Moolort Plains beyond.

As a painter and photographer Michael Wolfe draws inspiration from the landscape around his home in Castlemaine, Victoria. He has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally and his work is included in public, corporate and private collections.

“I had a plan of where I thought the paintings would go – bold, calligraphic, reductive – and then well, I just let the paintings, let the marks lead the way and I just followed where they took me. I wanted them to function as both purely abstract, as pattern, arrangements of forms; and as landscape, a flattened topographical view with no illusions of perspective or space except that which happens on the surface. I’m not sure where they're going, but it’s always exciting to go somewhere new.”
