Whipstick, 1989
“Here’s a blast from the past. A client has asked me to sell this painting for them, a 1989 work on paper in gouache and acrylic. Painted in the Whipstick bush outside Bendigo it reflects my enduring interest in spontaneous and gestural responses to landscape.”
all the light of the day
Sometimes, I like to go closer to the edge of the sublime, the luminous effects, the soft edges, the floaty, ethereal moments of misty light and washy impressionistic colour. This is where perspective really collapses and the horizon is just a vague suggestion in the distance, forms disappear in and out of focus, the early morning light a kind of buttery smudge."
